Istanbul: Troy and Gallipoli 2-Day Trip

Things to Do in Canakkale

Canakkale sits on the Dardanelles strait, historically significant as the closest access point to ancient Troy and the WWI Gallipoli battlefields. This collection ranks what's genuinely worth visiting in and around the city itself. **Good to know:** Gallipoli's battlefield sites are spread out — a guided tour or car is genuinely more practical than trying to walk between them. April 25th (ANZAC Day) draws large crowds to Gallipoli specifically; book well ahead if visiting then. Troy's ruins require some imagination — an audio guide or guided tour adds real context the bare site doesn't give you. For the practicalities of getting here and around, see [Getting to & Around Canakkale](/collections/getting-around-canakkale); for the dedicated Troy/Gallipoli itinerary, see the [Gallipoli & Troy Day Trip Guide](/collections/gallipoli-troy-guide-canakkale).
