From Izmir: Guided Tour of the Ancient City of Ephesus

Things to Do in Izmir

Izmir trades Istanbul's density for a genuinely relaxed Aegean coastal pace — a long waterfront promenade, real coffee culture, and easy access to Ephesus. This collection ranks what's worth doing in the city itself. **Good to know:** Izmir's summer heat is genuinely intense — afternoon activities are better scheduled for morning or evening. The Kemeralti Bazaar is a real working market, not a tourist set piece — bargaining is normal for goods, not expected at food stalls. Ephesus day trips from Izmir mean a real time commitment; leave early to make it worthwhile. For after dark, see [Nightlife in Izmir](/collections/nightlife-izmir); for spots even repeat visitors miss, see [Izmir Hidden Gems](/collections/hidden-gems-izmir).
