Turkey eVisa for Digital Nomads: What to Know Before You Plan Your Stay

Turkey eVisa for Digital Nomads: What to Know Before You Plan Your Stay

Step 1: Check if you even need an eVisa

Many nationalities can enter Turkiye visa-free for tourism, no application needed: Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, the USA, UK, most EU countries, Russia, Brazil, Argentina, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kazakhstan, and Thailand (30 days), among others — typically for up to 90 days within any 180-day period.

Step 2: If you do need one, apply only at the official portal

Go to evisa.gov.tr directly. Copycat sites charge inflated 'service fees' for the same free-to-apply-for document — don't use a third-party site unless you specifically want paid help navigating a complex case.

Step 3: Special case — Indian passport holders

Indian citizens can only get the online eVisa if they already hold a valid Schengen, US, UK, or Ireland visa or residence permit (a 'conditional' eVisa, 30-day single entry). Without one of those, you must apply for a sticker visa in person instead — the online portal will reject your application otherwise.

Step 4: Fill out the application

  • Open the official eVisa portal and start a new application
  • Enter passport and travel details exactly as they appear in your passport
  • Upload a scan of your passport bio page and a compliant photo
  • Pay the fee by Visa or Mastercard — approximately $43 USD, though this varies by nationality
  • Approval usually arrives within minutes — save the PDF and carry it with your passport

Step 5: Know the real limits

  • An approved eVisa does not guarantee entry — Turkish border officials can still refuse admission without providing a reason
  • Typical validity is 30-90 days depending on nationality, for tourism or business purposes only
  • Overstaying can result in fines from $100 to $500 depending on nationality and length of overstay
  • The eVisa does not authorize work or long-term residence — that requires a separate residence permit
