Hierapolis Ancient Ruins Guide
What Hierapolis actually includes beyond Pamukkale's terraces — the theater, necropolis, and Cleopatra's Pool.
Hierapolis, the ancient Roman spa city built directly above Pamukkale's thermal springs, is genuinely worth more time than the terraces alone get credit for.
The site includes a well-preserved theater, a necropolis with hundreds of tombs, and the ruins of the Temple of Apollo — all included in the same entrance ticket as the terraces themselves, so there's no reason to skip it.
The Antique Pool (Cleopatra's Pool) inside Hierapolis lets you swim among submerged ancient columns, but requires a separate ticket beyond general entry — worth deciding on in advance since it sells out on busy days.
Most visitors underestimate how large the site is. Budget at least 2-3 hours beyond terrace time if Hierapolis interests you at all, since the ruins are spread across a genuinely large area.
