Getting to & Around Izmir

Izmir has its own major international airport (Adnan Menderes, ADB), with frequent direct flights from Istanbul running under an hour — genuinely one of the easier Turkish cities to reach.
The airport sits about 30 minutes from the city center by metro or taxi, with a direct rail connection making it one of the more straightforward airport-to-city trips in the country.
Within Izmir, the metro and tram network covers the city center well, and the Kordon waterfront is highly walkable — a car isn't necessary for a city-focused stay.
Izmir also functions as the practical gateway to Ephesus, Selcuk, and the wider Aegean coast, making it a common first or last stop on a western Turkey itinerary.
