How the e-Visa System Works
The official electronic visa (e-Visa) system, operated by the Republic of Türkiye's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, allows eligible foreign travelers to obtain an entry visa online in 3 to 10 minutes.
You must apply exclusively through the official government portal at www.evisa.gov.tr. Fraudulent third-party agency sites mimic government branding to charge $80 to $200+ in unauthorized service markups — Turkish diplomatic missions do not delegate e-Visa processing to third-party intermediaries.

Application Prerequisites
Before starting your application, make sure you have:
- Valid passport, with at least 60 days validity past your intended stay (6 months from arrival recommended)
- An active email address to receive the verification link and approved PDF e-Visa
- A valid credit or debit card (Visa, Mastercard, or UnionPay)
- Conditional applicants only (e.g. passport holders from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, or Egypt): a valid, unexpired visa or residence permit from a Schengen member state, the US, UK, or Ireland at the time of entry
Step-by-Step Walkthrough
Follow this 5-step process to complete your e-Visa application on the official portal.
- 1
Select citizenship & travel document
- Go to www.evisa.gov.tr and click "Apply Now."
- Select your nationality and travel document type (e.g., Ordinary Passport).
- Complete the security captcha verification to proceed.
- 2
Choose your arrival date & verify eligibility requirements
- Select your planned arrival date in Türkiye.
- The portal calculates your visa validity window (e.g., 180 days) and your maximum permitted stay (e.g., 30 or 90 days).
- Review and check the boxes for all mandatory eligibility criteria (return flight ticket, hotel reservation, sufficient daily funds, or a supporting visa).
- 3
Fill in personal & passport information
- Enter your details exactly as shown on your passport bio-page: given name(s) and surname, date and place of birth, parents' names, passport number, issue date, and expiry date, plus your email address and contact phone number.
- 4
Confirm email verification
- Check your email inbox for an automated confirmation message.
- Click the confirmation button inside the email within 1 hour to approve your application.
- 5
Pay the fee & download your e-Visa
- Enter your credit or debit card details to complete payment — official state fees range between $0 and $90 USD depending on your passport nationality.
- Once payment is approved, click the download button on screen to save your PDF e-Visa (a copy is also emailed to you).
- Print a physical copy or save the PDF on your phone to present to airline staff and Turkish border control.
Important Scope & Usage Rules
Tourism and Business Only
The e-Visa is valid strictly for tourist trips and commercial/business visits.
No Employment or Study Rights
An e-Visa does not grant the legal right to work for a Turkish employer or enroll in a university. Local employment requires an employer-sponsored Work Permit (Çalışma İzni).
Long-Term Stays
If you plan to remain in Türkiye longer than your e-Visa allowance, you must apply for a formal Short-Term Residence Permit (e-İkamet) before your visa expires.
Real-World Troubleshooting & Common Mistakes
Avoid these common pitfalls when applying for your e-Visa.
Fake Reseller Websites
Search ads often lead applicants to third-party sites styled like the official government portal, charging $80–$200+ in unauthorized markups.
Solution
Apply exclusively at www.evisa.gov.tr — Turkish diplomatic missions never delegate e-Visa processing to third parties.
Missing the Email Verification Window
Failing to click the confirmation link inside the verification email within 1 hour can cause the application to lapse or require restarting.
Solution
Check your inbox (and spam folder) immediately after submitting personal details, and confirm right away.
Overlooking the Conditional Visa Requirement
Applicants from countries like India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, or Egypt sometimes apply without realizing they need a valid Schengen, US, UK, or Ireland visa or residence permit to qualify.
Solution
Confirm your conditional eligibility requirement before applying, and ensure your supporting visa or permit remains valid through your entire stay in Türkiye.
Assuming the e-Visa Grants Work or Study Rights
Some travelers mistakenly believe the e-Visa allows local employment or university enrollment.
Solution
Local employment requires a separate employer-sponsored Work Permit (Çalışma İzni), and study requires the appropriate student visa/residence pathway.
