What Is VFS Turkey?
VFS Global (and similar regional visa service providers) acts as the outsourced administrative processing partner for Turkish diplomatic missions worldwide. Understanding how VFS fits into the Turkish immigration landscape helps clarify when you need an in-person appointment and when you can bypass outsourced agencies entirely.
VFS Global is an authorized third-party application agency that collects physical documents, passports, and biometric data on behalf of Turkish Embassies and Consulates.
What VFS does: manages pre-application document submission, schedules consular appointments, collects physical visa fees, and returns processed passports containing a Sticker Visa (Etiket Vize).
What VFS does NOT do: VFS does not evaluate or decide visa approvals — final decision authority rests exclusively with Turkish diplomatic officers. VFS is also not involved in processing online e-Visas.

When Do You Need VFS (or a Sticker Visa Center)?
You must apply through an authorized Turkish visa application center like VFS when:
You Are Not Eligible for an e-Visa or Visa Exemption
If your passport nationality requires a visa and you do not meet the criteria for a direct online e-Visa (or lack the supporting visas/residence permits required for conditional e-Visas), you must obtain a physical Sticker Visa prior to travel.
Traveling for Non-Tourism Purposes (Work, Study, Research)
Electronic visas are valid strictly for short-term tourism or commercial business trips. If you plan to travel for employment, university study, academic research, or long-term relocation, you must apply for a regular sticker visa through a Turkish mission or authorized processing center before entry.
Biometric Collection Is Required
First-time sticker visa applicants or long-stay visa categories require physical document checks and passport submission.
When Do You NOT Need VFS?
You do not need to use VFS or visit a visa application center in the following scenarios:
Applying for a Tourist e-Visa
If you qualify for an online e-Visa, you apply independently at the official government portal, www.evisa.gov.tr. No third-party handling company is delegated or required, and no biometrics are collected.
Visa-Exempt Passport Holders
Citizens of visa-exempt nations (such as the UK, US, Australia, EU, and UAE) entering for tourist or short business visits up to 90 days within any 180-day window do not need VFS or an e-Visa.
Applying for a Residence Permit (e-İkamet)
If you are already inside Türkiye under a valid visa or visa exemption and wish to stay longer, you do not use VFS. Instead, lodge your application online at e-ikamet.goc.gov.tr and attend an in-person appointment at the local Provincial Directorate of Migration Management. Official residence permit appointments there are 100% free of charge.
