What Is a Travel Visa?
A travel visa (or visa exemption / e-Visa) is an official entry authorization issued by a government that permits a foreign national to enter and temporarily stay within its borders for specific, non-permanent purposes such as tourism, short business visits, or family travel.
Short-term duration: a travel visa or visa-free entry allowance covers limited short stays — typically capped at up to 90 days within any 180-day period.

Entry Mechanisms: How a Travel Visa Works
Visa Exemption
Allows eligible passport holders to enter directly without a prior application, based on international agreements between countries.
e-Visa / Consular Visa
A short-term travel authorization obtained online (e-Visa) or issued through an embassy prior to departure (consular/sticker visa).
Specialized Long-Stay Visas
Such as the Digital Nomad Visa, which allows qualified remote workers to enter prior to establishing formal residency — a bridge between a short-term visa and a full residence permit.
Important Distinctions: Visa vs. Residence Permit vs. Work Permit
Understanding what a travel visa does not do is just as important as knowing what it allows.
Travel Visa vs. Residence Permit (İkamet İzni)
A travel visa only authorizes temporary entry and short-term stay. Foreigners who intend to remain in Türkiye longer than their visa or visa-exemption allowance must apply for a formal Residence Permit (İkamet İzni) under Article 30 of Law No. 6458.
Travel Visa vs. Work Permit (Çalışma İzni)
Neither a travel visa nor a standard tourist residence permit grants the legal right to work for a local employer. Local employment strictly requires an official Work Permit (Çalışma İzni) issued under International Labor Law No. 6735.
